Is it possible for the AfD to ever win the chancellorship in Germany?

Is it possible for the AfD to ever win the chancellorship in Germany?

AfD had a golden ticket to victory — just focus on immigration. Immigration, immigration, immigration. Mention Muslim immigrants and crime statistics and little else, and they’d have won easily. But no, they just had to throw in a bunch of half-baked pro-Russia nonsense.

I, for one, am happy to see AfD lose. Germany’s Merz is a conservative, too, but a far more sensible one who knows the meaning of nuance and who doesn’t suffer from this strange compulsion to fellate eastern despots like it’s an Olympic sport. Thank God sanity won.

The extreme stances probably didn’t help very much, either — wanting to leave the European Union, wanting to get out of NATO, and supporting literally every Russian action of the last ten years, from the annexation of Crimea to the war in Donbass, they were Russia’s official cheerleaders in Germany at every twist and turn. Now a lot of right-wingers quite agreed with AfD on social issues, on immigration, on their criticism of Islam… but the near-constant, compulsive fellating of Putin probably didn’t help their electoral chances.

Maybe one day, but definitely not now — the latest exit polls are in, and it looks like the conservative Merz won the German elections with some 29% of votes, AfD a distant second with 19% of votes.

Guess all this spreading of braindead Kremlin propaganda wasn’t endearing AfD with German voters all that much. How very, very surprising…
